| In response to DEFRA’s call for Drainage Boards to grow through amalgamation to deliver greater efficiencies and to prepare them to expand their role in support of the Lead Local Flood Authorities (normally the Unitary or County Council), the Isle of Axholme, Garthorpe, Idle and Ryton and Everton Boards joined together in April 2011 to form the Isle of Axholme and North Nottinghamshire Water Level Management Board.
The Board consists of 25 members, 12 elected by the Drainage Ratepayers, 11 nominated by North Lincolnshire Council and 2 nominated by Bassetlaw District Council. The first meeting was held on 10th May 2011 at Westwoodside Village Hall where Mr Malcolm Harris was elected as Chairman of the Board and Mr Bob Adam was elected Vice-Chairman.
Malcolm Harris the Chairman said:
“By pulling together the natural partners of the Isle of Axholme, Everton, Garthorpe and Idle and Ryton, we will be stronger, seen as a credible organisation in the eyes of the Lead Local Flood Authorities and the Environment Agency. But most importantly we will uphold the key elements that have made the Boards stand up to the test of time and deliver what the people needed. We will ensure that local knowledge, involvement of the local community and the ability to deliver cost-effective, pragmatic Water Level Management to the Isle is maintained now and into the future.”
